just read your article and tried this both on 4.3 and also on 4.4.
On 4.3 launcher stops (as mentioned) frequently – so it’s impossible to use
On 4.4 the three gapps are installable, but adding a google account always ends with “there was a problem communicating with google servers” besides the fact, gapps are located in “prov-app” folder.
When I push the apks into the priv folder , the Google Play Store shows no connection , while the browser on the emulator still works fine and gets connected to the internet, how to resolve this ?

Hi,
it’s me again and I found a solution.
I accidentally installed the 4.3 gapps on the 4.4 emulator into the priv-app folder and – it works!

Yes, it worked, but with 4.3 gapps you can`t get applications for 4.4 on play market. So, maybe someone have found solution ?

upon adding existing account to play store
could not sign in
there was a problem communication with google servers

I succeeded with this on 5th try, after doing exactly same steps shown here – API18, ARM CPU, etc.
